FT1: Geology and Sedimentology Field Trip to Langkawi Geopark (1.5 days)

Instructor: Professor Shafeea Leman & Assoc. Professor Dr Che Aziz Ali, (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia)
Date: 27th Feb- 1st March 2009 (Pre-Conference)
Itinerary:

  •  27/2  - Fly out from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi

  •  28/2  - Morning: Sedimentology of Machinchang Formation at Pasir Tengkorak.

  • 28/2 - Afternoon: Sedimentology of Machinchang Fm at Gunung Machinchang by Cable Car, scenic views of Langkawi Islands

  •  1/3 - Morning:  two options:

(1) Pulau Ular (for clastic sedimentology) or
(2) Kilim Geoforest Park (for geoheritage, limestone and fossils).

  • Afternoon fly back to KL

Accommodation:  Bay View, Kuah Town (to be confirmed)
Package includes: Field guidebook, return airfare KL-Langkawi, hotel accommodation with breakfast, dinners and lunches, ground and boat travels.

FT2: Geology of West Crocker Formation, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (1 day) 

Instructors: Professor Felix Tungkul (University Malaysia Sabah) and Dr Mazlan Madon (PETRONAS Research)
Date: 27th Feb- 1st March 2009 (Pre-Conference)
Itinerary:

  •  27/2  - Fly out from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

  •  28/2  - Field study of West Crocker Formation outcrops around Kota Kinabalu (1 full day)

  •  1/3 - Fly back to KL

Accommodation:  Le Meridien Hotel (to be confirmed)
Package includes: Field guidebook, return airfare KL-KK, hotel accommodation with breakfast, dinners and lunches.

No of pax: 25 max (on first come first serve basis)

Estimated Price: RM5,976 / USD1,870 nett per pax

 

FT3: Sedimentology Geology of the coastal marine succession of the Nyalau Formation, Bintulu,

Instructors: Dr Hadi Abdul Rahman (Orogenic Resources) and Dr Mazlan Madon (PETRONAS Research)

Date: 4-6th March 2009 (Post-Conference)

Itinerary:

  •  4/3  - Morning flight out from Kuala Lumpur to Bintulu

  • 5/3  - Field Study of Nyalau Formation outcrops around Bintulu (1 full day)

  •  6/3 - Fly back to Kuala Lumpur

Accommodation: Park City Everly Hotel (to be confirmed)

Package Includes: Field Guidebook, return airfare KL-Bintulu, hotel accommodation with breakfast, dinners and lunches.

No. of Pax: 25 max (on first come first serve basis)

Estimated Price: RM5,472 / USD1,713 nett per pax

 

Payment Instruction

For local participants, payment by crossed cheque made payable to the Geological Society of Malaysia. Outstation cheques should cover bank charges.
